Enjoy Your Morocco Holidays Outside Our Luxury Villas Too Things to do, places to go on your Moroccan vacations

Those guests who can bear to venture beyond the grounds of Dar Liqama, will discover a wealth of activities and adventures within just a short distance of our luxury villas.

See the Red City of Marrakech, which has attracted and enthralled scores of travellers for centuries. The 12th-century ramparts still encircle the maze of alleys in the medina and labyrinthine souks of Old Marrakech. It is a feast for the eyes, imagination and wallet, with exquisite ceramics, textiles and other traditional crafts all to be bartered for.

A historic tour of the city can be organised to take guests around the city’s most famous sights, including the Koutoubia Minaret, the Bahia Palace, the Saadians Tombs and the Dar Said Museum. The visit culminates in a ringside seat at Marrakech’s most famous spectacle - Djemaa el Fna. This large central square comes alive in the evening with dancers, jugglers, acrobats, musicians, snake charmers and storytellers who mesmerise the gathered crowds. There is also a chance to sample Morocco’s famous street food with an array of dishes, drinks and nibbles on offer from the many food stalls that cook late into the night.

Away from the hectic hub of the city, diversions such as horseback or camel riding can be organised around the area of La Palmeraie. The lush terrain is also ideal for independent explorations on foot or by mountain bike.

Keen walkers can join a popular trip to the Atlas Mountains for an easy trek in the cool of the morning, followed by a visit to a Berber village and maybe its souk on market days. The day comes to a close with the traditional mint tea and pastries.

For a scene of great natural beauty, it’s hard to better the Cascades d’Ouzoud. This series of amazing waterfalls is a short drive from Dar Liqama and a peaceful spot to spend a hot day. For rewarding views over the falls, a climb up the rocks is recommended and, for those who dare, there’s nothing quite so refreshing as diving into the cool and foaming waters below.

Further away is the pretty fishing town on Essaouria on the wild Atlantic Coast. The village is famous for an annual jazz festival, its fresh seafood – which is grilled and sold daily on the beach - and ancient souks selling beautiful locally crafted ceramics and woodcraft.

luxury villaFood is an integral part of a stay at Dar Liqama, with the Rhode School of Cuisine opening for classes here at select times of the year. The classes are taught by master chefs in the internal demonstration kitchen or outside at the Polynesian Bar, and are informal yet informative. All guests can join the classes and master such dishes as couscous aux sept legumes, lamb tajine with prunes or perhaps pilpil shrimp, hot with pimentos and garlic – with all ingredients fresh and organically produced. This unique and excellent cooking school is partnered by the best selling author of Street Café Morocco, Anissa Helou. Anissa is an expert in the intricacies of Morocco’s cuisine and enjoys sharing its secrets with guests at Dar Liqama.
